SASKATCHEWAN is one of the three prairie provinces in Canada. (map) It is the fifth largest province with over a million people (1,023,810 provincial estimate January 2009).Most of the people live in the southern part of the province.
In Saskatchewan, a community must have a population of 5,000 or more to get city status. As of September 2009 there are now 15 cities in Saskatchewan, 145 towns, 266 villages, 40 resort villages, 296 rural municipalities, two northern towns, 11 northern villages and 12 northern hamlets.
